All theory classes are held in our heated classroom with tea and coffee making facilities. The classroom is fully fitted with electronic equipment to aid training including VHF/Radio simulator. Our classroom offers a relaxed and friendly environment for learning. All instructors are RYA qualified.

VHF Operators Course

1 day

This is a one day course and teachers the correct use of VHF for a ship to ship and ship to shore communications, covering emergency situations and the new GMDSS regulations:

  • Distress situations
  • Urgent situations
  • Safety situations
  • Routine communications

First Aid Course

1 day

Again a one day course which is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for skippers and crew working within 60 miles of a safe haven. Persons intending to progress to Yachtmaster or to obtain a commercial Endorsement will be required to hold one of these.

Diesel Engine Course

1 day

This one day course is designed to give awareness of the main systems of a marine diesel engine so that you are able to take simple measures to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea. During the course you will have the opportunity to dismantle and inspect different aspects of a typical marine diesel engine.

Radar Course

1 day

A one day course increasingly popular on both sailing and motor boats. Radar is an invaluable aid for navigation and collision avoidance but it is only useful in the hands of a knowledgeable operator. The course can be conducted ashore using RYA approved software, or afloat on an authorised vessel.

Day Skipper Theory Course

5 days

This course will take you through basic seamanship and give you a good all round introduction to navigation and meteorology. The course is 40 hours long and can be held over different time scales whether it be night school, a week long course or split over several consecutive weekends.

Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Theory Course

6 days

This is an advanced course in navigation and meteorology following on from the Day Skipper course. There is some provision in the syllabus for revision of certain subjects but candidates should be fully versed with all sections of the Day Skipper Theory course.
